 600 KWP PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANT – CHAHBAHAR, IRAN

This project involves a 600 kWp ground-mounted photovoltaic plant located in the Iranian hinterland, near the city of Chahbahar, in the Sistan and Baluchistan province (southeastern Iran). The area is characterized by an arid desert climate and high solar irradiation, making it ideal for solar energy production; however, it requires specific engineering solutions to ensure soil stability.

Technical Project Data

  • Installed Capacity: 600 kWp (kilowatt peak).

  • Structural Technology: Light Steel Framing (LSF) structures anchored via gabions.

  • Why use gabions? In desert areas with sandy or rocky soil, or ground unsuitable for the deep excavatio required by traditional piling, gabions serve as gravity-based ballast. They are filled on-site with local stones, eliminating the need for cement (concrete foundations), thereby reducing environmental impact and installation time.

  • Configuration: South-oriented PV strings mounted on cold-galvanized steel profiles (lightweight yet corrosion-resistant).

  • Electrical Infrastructure: The plant includes an MV/LV transformer station, string or central inverters, and a remote monitoring system.

Structural Summary

Adopting a Light Steel Framing (LSF) structure combined with stone-filled gabions represents an excellent sustainability solution. This approach promotes a circular economy by utilizing local excavated materials for foundations and employing modular structures that are easy to transport.
